Agent Spotlight Gwen Ernzen

Meet Gwen Ernzen. Gwen is a Senior Agent in Client Advocacy. She joined Armed Forces Insurance more than 35 years ago. Gwen enjoys assisting AFI members with their insurance needs. She especially enjoys talking to members that will take the time to do a complete account review.

Gwen started in 1980 as a clerk, and worked a couple of processing jobs before becoming an agent. Five years later she was promoted to a supervisor and served in that role for 25 years. When "LIFE" called for a more flexible schedule so she could help aging parents and young grandchildren, she moved back into an agent role with a 30-hour week schedule. Guess you could say her career has gone "full circle."

She grew up right here in Kansas. She attended Pleasant Ridge High School, a rural high school in Easton, KS. Gwen didn't get serious about college until her children were in school and AFI job requirements were updated to include additional education. She completed her CPCU insurance designation in 2007 and her Associate's Degree in Marketing & Mid-Management through Kansas City Kansas Community College was completed in 2010.

Gwen and her husband Rick have been married for 33 years and live on the family farm. Rick's father started a dairy farm 68 years ago and it remains a family owned/operated business in Leavenworth County. She says they have always felt like her job with AFI allowed Rick to keep farming through the lean years. Gwen and her husband have four children and nine grandchildren. Three of their four children (and seven grandchildren) live within a 5-mile radius of the farm. One daughter lives in Colorado with her family. Her greatest joys are spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow (although they are growing up too fast).   She also enjoys working (or just hanging out) in her flower gardens and getting away to Lake Stockton in Missouri.

When Gwen was very young, she wanted to be a "Go-Go-Girl" on the Dean Martin Show. Her first job was in a daycare for the local YWCA. Eventually, insurance experience was added to her resume. Once she was hired by then Armed Forces Cooperative Insuring Association, insurance became her career.

If you have any questions about your current policy or have made some improvements on your own home, please give Gwen a call at 800-255-6792. She or one of our other licensed agents will be happy to assist you with all your insurance needs.
