Protecting Your Home Against Floods
Each year, homes and businesses across the United States are damaged or destroyed by floodwaters. One-third of flood damage occurs outside of designated floodplains, according to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Knowing your flood risk is the first step toward becoming better prepared. While elevating properties is the most effective solution to protect against flooding, there are other steps you take to help you prepare, respond and recover from a flood.
During Tornado Season, Please be Prepared
Tornados are nature’s most violent storms and can strike with little warning, though meteorologists are now better able to predict the signs a twister is coming. Even a few minutes warning provides an opportunity for those in harm’s way to seek shelter. In communities with a history of tornado activity, there may be a warning siren and/or a digital messaging system to alert residents that they should seek proper shelter immediately.
Please review these tips as they will help you protect yourself and your family should a tornado approach.
